Kabigting's Halo-Halo

After our short stop at the Historic Camalig Restaurant, we visited Kabigting's Halo-Halo for dessert in the nearby mall.  It was nice that they had a branch in the mall since Arayat, where this awesome dessert originated from is still a 30-minute drive away from where we are.

The Legendary Halo Halo

Their branch is located at the food court along with Aling Lucing's Sisig and other food purveyors.  Upon browsing through the menu, we decided to try out their Palabok and Puto as well.

Puto, which is a type of steamed rice cake is one of my favorite snack when I was a kid.  Their Puto is really soft and tasty.  It is topped with salted duck egg yolk which adds color and richness to the overall taste.

Steamed Rice Cakes

The Palabok which is a type of noodle dish in rich and thick shrimp sauce, was also good.  Their version is much simpler than the ones in Palabokan sa Obrero in terms of toppings but we still enjoyed it.

Classic Palabok

They use bihon noodles for their palabok which for me is a perfect vehicle of the delectable shrimp sauce.
It was also topped with the usual egg slices, fried garlic, spring onions and crushed chicharon.

Golden noodles

OK, now let's go back to the Halo-Halo.  Kabigting's Halo-Halo was established in the 1970's in Arayat, Pampanga.  It started out as a small family ran operation which later became a commercial success due to the unique taste and ingredients of their Halo-Halo.

Halo-Halo with a twist

The 3 main ingredients that made this Halo-Halo unique is Kabigting's twist of Cream of Corn, Sweetened Beans and Caramel, made with Carabao's Milk and Egg Yolks.  Another awesome thing about Kabigting's Halo-Halo is they have a branch in Quezon City near Banawe area so you do not have to drive all the way to Pampanga just to try out their famous Halo-Halo.

Cool!

    1. Yup! It's in Banawe area in QC. I also saw Mt. Arayat Halo-Halo in SM MOA last night boasting of the same ingredients, I'm just not sure if it's also owned by Kabigting's :)
