Grilled Pork Belly |
The place is an old house turned into an eatery where one can order good food fit for a student's budget. Almost 10 years has passed since the last time I was here but the place still looks the same which is quite amusing. A lot of people are still frequenting the place ordering their quick and affordable meals.
Old School |
And like any other old school carenderia, they also have the Fab 4 of condiments in every table, Fish Sauce, Soy Sauce, Vinegar and Banana Ketchup and also the ever present free Hot Soup to start the meal.

After browsing through the menu, T just opted to try their Pork Barbecue since she was still quite full from our earlier meal at Chades Tapsilog. The barbecue was good and the sauce was really tasty.

I on the otherhand, wanted to order the Tapsilog but unfortunately it was not available so I decided to try out their InihawSiLog which is basically Grilled Pork Belly with Egg and Fried Rice. The Grilled Pork belly was OK. It was a little bland but still quite good and I enjoyed it.

I also ordered a bowl of Papaitan, which is a stew of ox tripe and innards usually flavored with ginger and a souring agent like Kamias (Bilimbi) or Sampalok (Tamarind ) and bile.
Papaitan - P60 |
The Papaitan was loaded with ox tripe and innards but the soup was a bit short in the bitterness and sourness factor. The good thing about this Papaitan though is it was served piping hot which was really nice.
A spoonful of tripe and innards |
Overall, the meal was OK and we both enjoyed our orders. The prices of their food are really affordable and the service was efficient. Another cool thing that about this place is the classic 80's feel of the place. Even the menu looks old school and they also sell Bear Brand Milk for drinks. CLASSIC!
I was glad to see that these type of eateries are still alive and well even after decades of operation. So when you are in the Bambang area, try out Lola Ely's Tapsilog. It is smack dab at the corner of Felix Huertas St. along Bambang and it's really hard to miss.
