X marks the spot at Ramen X

T and I went to Trinoma last Sunday to watch Skyfall, the latest and probably the best James Bond film to be released since Goldfinger. And since we still have more than an hour to spare before the screening, we decided to have a quick dinner at Ramen X.  A Japanese casual dining restaurant that specializes in (and yes, you guessed it) Ramen.

A good bowl of Ramen

Ramen X's interior has a modern and casual feel which gives it a relaxed and playful ambiance.  Their menu is displayed on the wall and the place was clean and well lit.  You will be placing your order at the counter and wait for your meal to be delivered at your table.

They offer a number of specialty ramen, rice bowl meals and drinks.  T wanted something a bit heavy so she went for the Katsudon bowl.  It is a deep-fried breaded pork cutlet with egg, onions and sauce on top of white rice.  I wasn't able to get a taste of this but T said it was pretty good and the sauce was not too sweet unlike the other ones she tried before.

Katsudon - P99

I on the other hand, ordered their Oishi Ramen, it is a roast pork noodle in a blend of soy and shio broth.  The Ramen was huge and was served piping hot which is always nice.

It also came with the usual Narutomaki which is a type of fish cake and thinly sliced roast pork.  The roast pork was rich and tasty.  The smokiness is present with every bite and it perfectly complimented the flavorful broth.

The noodles were bouncy and firm to the bite.  The broth was full of flavor and the spicy bean paste added a welcome spiciness to the overall taste of the soup.  It also added a rich color and aroma to the broth that I really liked.

Of course a Ramen dinner will not be complete without a side order of Gyoza.  It is a type of Japanese dumpling filled with minced pork and cabbage and is usually pan fried.  Their version here is deep fried and served with Japanese Soy Sauce.

Fried Gyoza - P59

The crust was crisp and doughy.  The filling was made of shredded cabbage and minced pork with a hint of chives and ginger.  The Gyoza was quite good but I still prefer the classic pan fried version.   It would also have been better if they served Japanese vinegar and chili oil along with the plain Kikkoman Soy Sauce.

Here's a peek of their menu.  Please click to enlarge.

Overall, we enjoyed our meal and everything was good not to mention affordable.  The staff was also efficient and the place was clean and well lit which is always nice.  Give Ramen X a try when you find yourself wandering around Trinoma and check out their ramen specialties.
